Sanghamitra brings the holy Bodhi Tree to Sri Lanka, Mural, Kelaniya Vihara, early 20th century. The painter Soliyas Mendis travelled to India in the end of the 19th century to study the paintings of Ajanta. When he returned to Sri Lanka, he created a new style of art, which has its roots in the gentle expressions and exquisite grace of the Ajanta paintings. His work represents a valuable link and continuation of the ancient style of Buddhist paintings. The paintings also display a close affinity to the style of the Sigiriya paintings and are distinctly Sri Lankan.

Welcome to Sonoli a Village surrounded by the serene beauty of nature, there is a lush green forest. Nature has abundantly graced this area with its beauty and calm.

It is also a historical region as the great river Tapi has began its journey from Multai.

The beautiful village Sonoli is situated at the distance of just 4 km from the town Multai . The Multai town is on highway No. NH 47 which can be reached from Nagpur (125 km)-Bhopal (224 km) and by train it is a big station where some Express trains as well as all other trains running on Chennai - Delhi Grand trunk route has a station.The nearest airport for this place is Nagpur.

During the last 40 years only a simple statue of lord buddha was there in this village. So Sanghmitra Buddha Vihar Samiti decided to have a grand statue as well as a vihar for prayer and other social activities for the community. But the main hurdle in this plan was money, as resources of the community members were very limited and no one was in a position to spend the huge amount require for this great social venture. At last Dr Madhukar Hurmade the secretary of the samiti took initiative and approached number of people who were ready to help in this great cause. After completion of the construction of vihar, one of them suggested that the samiti can get a statue of Lord Buddha from Thailand. Then, the work of getting the statue started in that direction and the samiti ultimately succeeded in getting the statue doneted from one great devotee of Lord Buddha, The Thai student association president Bhante Dr Anek . The statue is made up of multimetal (Ashtadhatu ) it is 5.5 feet high seating in a Vitarka Mudra (Ashirvad Mudra ). At a grand function of The Installation Ceremony of the statue was held on April 23 rd 2017 , in which 2000 people were present and the religious rituals were performed at the hands of Dr Bhadant Anand Thero- Nagpur, Bhante Bodhimitra -Mizoram, Bhante Milind -Nagpur, Bhante Amitanand -Nagpur.And in this way the Sanghmitra Buddha Vihar Samiti has succeeded in this great social and religious task, which will definitely inspire the coming generation to come forward to contribute and sacrifice for the cause of religion and community.

संघमित्रा बुद्ध विहार सोनोली (जामगांव )

संघमित्रा बुद्ध विहार सोनोली (जामगांव ) तहसील मुलताई जिला बैतूल मध्यप्रदेश में रमणीय तापी नदी के उगमस्थल मुलताई से चार किलोमीटर के दुरीपर अमरावती रोड के समीप स्थित है यह विहार जन सहायतासे निर्माण किया जा रहा है . 30 वर्ष पहले यहाँ ढाई फुट ध्यानस्त मुद्रामे बैठी मूर्ति की स्थापना की गई थी सन 2011 अप्रेल को इस स्थान का जीर्णोधार करनेका निर्णय लिया गया इस कार्य को आगे बढाने में    ग्रामस्थ श्री भिमरावजी खाडे, संतोषजी कोलमकर ,उत्तमरावजी वागद्रे, गुलाबरावजी  खाडे, भाऊरावजी लिखीतकर , दौलत पान्से , कुंजीलाल हूरमाडे , दादीजी हूरमाडे,पारन्या हूरमाडे,बाबूराव हूरमाडे,केदारी हुरमाडे , तेजी हूरमाडे,मारोतराव भम्बरकर ,पांडुरंग खातरकर ,मालनबाई हूरमाडे,बाया हूरमाडे,मधुकर हूरमाडे  और ग्राम के सन्माननीय गण का सहयोग प्राप्त है . इस  बुद्ध विहार को संघमित्रा नाम देनेका उद्देश यह है की . जिन्होंने बुध्ध धम्म का प्रचार प्रसार  सारे संसार  में किया .

संघमित्रा

संघमित्रा, राजकुमार महेन्द्र की भगिनी (बहिन) थी। उत्तर भारत की बुद्ध अनुश्रुतियों के आधार पर महेन्द्र को मौर्य सम्राट अशोक का भाई माना गया है। यद्यपि सिंहली ग्रन्थों और अनुश्रुतियों में संघमित्रा और महेन्द्र भाई-बहिन तथा अशोक की शाक्य रानी विदिशा देवी से उत्पन्न कहे गये हैं।^[1]

बौद्ध दीक्षा

कलिंग विजय के बाद अशोक पूर्णत: बौद्ध धर्म को समर्पित हो गया था। उसकी दोनों सन्तानें बड़ी प्रतिभाशाली और तेजस्वी थीं। जिस समय महेन्द्र की आयु 20 वर्ष और संघमित्रा की 18 वर्ष थी, सम्राट अशोक ने महेन्द्र को युवराज घोषित कर दिया। इस अवसर पर बौद्धाचार्य ने कहा कि, "बौद्ध धर्म का वास्तविक मित्र तो वह है, जो धर्मकार्य के लिए अपने पुत्र और पुत्री को समर्पित कर दे।" यह सुनकर सम्राट अशोक ने अपने पुत्र और पुत्री की इच्छा पूछी। पिता के प्रभाव से वे दोनों पहले ही बौद्ध धर्म की ओर आकृष्ट थे। दोनों ने इसे अपना अहोभाग्य समझा और भाई-बहिन दोनों बौद्ध धर्म में दीक्षित हो गए। महेन्द्र का नाम 'धर्मपाल' पड़ा और संघमित्रा 'आयुपाली' कहलाई। महेन्द्र ने 32 वर्ष की आयु में धर्म प्रचार करने के लिए सिंहल द्वीप (श्रीलंका) की यात्रा की। उसके प्रभाव से राजा 'तिष्य' सहित बड़ी संख्या में लोगों ने बौद्ध धर्म को ग्रहण किया।^[2]

ऐतिहासिक तथ्य

महावंश से पता चलता है कि अशोक के सबसे बड़े पुत्र महेंद्र और उसकी पुत्री संघमित्रा ने अशोक के अभिषेक के छ्ठे वर्ष में 'प्रवज्या' ली थी। उस समय उनकी उम्र क्रमश: 20 और 18 वर्ष थी। अब यदि अशोक के अभिषेक के तिथि ई.पू. 270 हो तो महेंद्र का जन्म ई.पू. 284 और संघमित्रा का जन्म ई.पू. 282 में हुआ होगा। यह भी उल्लेखनीय है कि अशोक के दामाद अग्निब्रह्मा ने उसके अभिषेक के चौथे वर्ष अर्थात ई.पू. 266 में 'प्रवज्या' ली थी। उस समय वह एक बेटे का बाप बन चुका था। इस प्रकार संघमित्रा से उसका विवाह ई.पू. 268 में अवश्य हो गया होगा, जब संघमित्रा की उम्र चौदह वर्ष रही होगी।^[3]

बौद्ध धर्म का प्रचार

सिंहली ग्रन्थों के अनुसार महेन्द्र बौद्ध भिक्षुओं के एक दल का नेतृत्व करता हुआ श्रीलंका गया और वहाँ के सभी निवासियों को बौद्ध धर्म में दीक्षित किया। संघमित्रा भी महेन्द्र के साथ बौद्ध धर्म के प्रचार कार्य में सहयोग देने के लिए श्रीलंका गई थी। उसने भी वहाँ के राजा तिष्य से समस्त परिवार के साथ ही अन्य स्त्रियों को बौद्ध धर्म की दीक्षा दी। आज भी श्रीलंका में ही नहीं सारे संसारमे उनका नाम बड़े आदर के साथ लिया जाता है।
